Do I have a Lowry?
LS Lowry was a prolific artist and it is always possible that you may come across an original work by him, but it is wise to be cautious. As well as painting many works on canvas or board, he drew throughout his life. His drawings range from scribbled sketches on the back of envelopes, and doodles on hotel napkins, to highly finished works for exhibition.
During his lifetime, Lowry gave works to friends and collectors as well as selling them through his dealers. In addition, in the 1960s and 1970s Lowry signed many commercially produced prints which were often issued in editions of 850. These have also become collectable.
